Free guide

Before you hire a video editor, try an agent

You'll connect Claude to Edits, Instagram's video app for Mac. Then you ask for changes in plain words: “cut the silences”, “add captions”, “export it”. No coding: every technical step is copy and paste.

When you're done

What you'll have

  • Claude connected to Edits on your Mac, ready to take instructions.
  • An editor that cuts by what you say: it removes silences, filler words and repeated takes.
  • Captions, text, sound effects, color and transitions, asked for in plain words.
  • The exported video in your Movies folder. You review it and you post it.

Before you start

What you need and what it costs

  • The one you have

    A Mac with Apple silicon

M1 or later, running macOS 15.1 or newer. Edits doesn't open on Intel Macs.

  • Free

    The Edits app

It's Instagram's video app for Mac. You sign in with your Instagram account and download it from the official Edits site.

  • From 17 USD a month

    A paid Claude plan

The free plan doesn't include Claude Code, which is what talks to Edits. Pro is 20 USD a month, or 17 USD a month if you pay for the full year (200 USD).

Prices and requirements checked on November 7, 2026. They can change: check the price at claude.com/pricing before you pay.

Setup

Five steps, all copy and paste

Terminal is an app that already comes with your Mac. Open it with Cmd + Space and type “Terminal”. You'll only paste into it what I tell you.

  1. Install Edits and Claude

Install Edits and sign in with your Instagram account. Then install the Claude app for Mac and sign in with your paid plan account.

  2. Install Claude Code

Open Terminal, paste this and press Enter. When it finishes, close Terminal and open it again.

    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
  3. Turn on Edits automation

In Edits, go to Settings › Automation and turn on “Enable Automation Server”. Further down, under “Connect an AI client”, click “Copy” next to Claude Code.

  4. Connect Claude to Edits

Paste what you copied from Edits into Terminal and press Enter. It contains your Edits key: don't share it with anyone. To check it worked, paste the command below: the list should show “metapilot-native” with “Connected”. That's Edits.

    claude mcp list
  5. Ask for your first video

Put your video in your Movies folder: Edits only sees that folder. With Edits open, open the Claude app, go to the Code tab, choose a folder to work in and ask for what you want.

How to ask

Talk to it like an editor

One thing at a time, and check in Edits before moving on. If you don't like something, say so in your own words.

The first thing you tell it

“Don't post anything to Instagram and don't delete any project or video.” The editor doesn't need to post: you upload the video yourself.

  • Open Edits and create a vertical project with the video interview.mov from my Movies folder.
  • Cut the silences and filler words. Before deleting anything, tell me what you'll remove.
  • Add captions in English, in white, at the bottom and without covering my face.
  • Export the video in HD to my Movies folder.

What it can't do yet

Good to know first

  • The soft text shadow, music and voiceover are added by hand in Edits.
  • Edits' text-to-speech voices are English only.
  • Music from “Trending” and “For you” is licensed by Instagram: you pick it when you post.
  • Don't ask it to change letter spacing: according to Edits itself, the project may not open on your iPhone afterwards.
  • It only uses fonts installed on your Mac or imported into your Edits account.
  • It works on your Mac and needs Edits open while it edits.
Coming soon

The kit folder

It includes the editor's instructions file, a sheet for your colors, your font and where text goes, and ten ready-to-paste instructions. I'll post it right here once it's tested.
